Conference - AI and creativity or is AI taking art away from us? On 2.5.2024, the conference ‘Artificial Intelligence and Creation’, organised by the Swiss Coalition for Cultural Diversity, Suisseculture and the Federal Film Commission, took place in Bern.
The conference was opened by Mathias Knauer, co-founder of Filmcooperative Zürich. He called for transparency, regulation that is co-designed by us creative artists and critical consumer behaviour. During Philip Kübler's (ProLitteris) presentation on copyright, it became clear that the protection of personal rights is increasingly taking centre stage, especially in the case of deep fakes. Nevertheless, such deep fakes would not be possible without copyright infringements. Nicole Pfister Fetz (European Writers Council/EWC) emphasised that there should be no generative AI that is not subject to the ART principle (Authorship, Remuneration, Transparency). An exchange beyond national borders is indispensable, said Pfister Fetz. AI is an issue for society as a whole and is particularly important for creative artists. The EWC calls for appropriate remuneration for the use of works. In addition to the topics mentioned above, other aspects were analysed and approaches for future regulation to protect works and the quality of cultural creation were presented.
