Back in the Grand Palais
This year's trip by the Basel Northwestern Switzerland section to Paris Photo (7 to 10 November) has already become a tradition. We travelled to Paris together for the first time in 2014. Visiting this year's photo art fair together (if you can find each other in the large hall) was an enriching experience for everyone. Even without Paris Photo, the newly renovated Grand Palais on the Champs-Elyssée - the fair returned to its original location after several years in the Champ de Mars temporary exhibition centre - is well worth a visit.
The atmosphere in the huge hall was impressive, the variety of art photography was high and, anyway, a one-off visit is not enough, as workshops, book signings and artist talks also enrich the exhibition. The highlight for some of us was the visit to Paris Photo by American photographer Steve Mc Curry. His most famous photo is that of the ‘Afghan girl’ with the intense green eyes, which made it onto the cover of National Geographic in 1985. The crowds in the gallery were correspondingly large.
