Monolity – Photographs by Roberto Pellegrini
Monoliti is a project that came about towards the end of the Covid-19 lockdown period. During my walks, I noticed a building with bricked-up windows across the entire façade, as well as newer buildings that use sliding metal panels made of the same material as the façades. Aesthetically, they can be fascinating, but they also reminded me of the isolation that everyone was experiencing at home at the time.
Several years later, this situation is still often a reality, for example for single people, for people who work from home, or for young people who withdraw from society, do not leave their rooms for long periods of time and only live virtually.
Based on this reflection and an architectural reality, I photographed contemporary buildings in Ticino and then carried out a digital ‘copy and paste’ operation. The open windows were ‘closed’ with the same façade material, creating enigmatic images of a new urban vision.
